About the Session

Join craft-based designer and artist Kitiya Palaskas to build a shrine to your creative self. As artists, our personalities are often intrinsically linked to our creativity, as art is an expression of the self. Kitiya's current creative passion is exploring this link between self identity and artistic expression, in particular, the practice of building altars and shrines as a way to reflect and venerate elements of the self.

In her 15 year career as a commercial designer specialising in props, sets and installations, Kitiya has developed a strong foundation of 3D construction techniques, a love for using craft-based materials like cardboard and paper in her design projects, and a distinctive collage and craft-based illustration practice. In this workshop, Kitiya will share these skills as she leads you through the process of designing and building an altar or shrine.

You will create your own handmade textures and patterns from which to make collaged, diorama-inspired elements and motifs for your shrine that represent you and your creativity. Kitiya will also share parts of her extensive research into the history and symbolism of shrines and altars, to provide a context to your creative project and inspire your designs.
