About the Session

Sue-Ching Lascelles's workshop invites participants to create two Aussie icons from felt: a jar of Vegemite and a prawn. So fun!

Join soft sculpture and textile artist Sue-Ching Lascelles to reimagine two Aussie favorites as soft sculptures. The humble Vegemite jar and prawn will be recreated in felt as 3D objects in this fun and very hands on workshop. In this workshop you will learn a number of craft techniques such as stitching, stuffing and using wire to shape soft forms to create your own life-sized sculptures. A fun workshop that will spark the imagination, fosters community and conversation.

Sue-ching Lascelles

Sue-Ching Lascelles is a multidisciplinary dreamer who narrates her experience primarily through textile and soft sculpture installations. Her work occupies space in between the real and the unreal and blurs the lines between where the ordinary ends and the extraordinary begins. Lascelles is based in Brisbane and completed a BA of Visual Arts in 1999 from the University of Southern Queensland. Her exhibition history includes; Brisbane Powerhouse, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, Ararat Regional Gallery, Craft Victoria and Toowoomba Regional Gallery. In 2018 she was commissioned to make work for the 35th anniversary of My Little Pony and has facilitated public programs for QAGOMA, Caboolture Art Gallery and State Library of Queensland.

More recently, Sue-Ching has turned her love for textiles, prints and fashion to sewing her own garments, with a particular love for pattern hacking and vintage patterns. Sue-Ching has discovered the joy and fulfilment that comes from the creative process of sewing clothes.
