About the Session

Rev up the fun-o-meter and build your own clay muscle car!

In this workshop participants will construct a ceramic car, based on Christian Bonett’s current body of work. The session will also offer participants some ideas and tips for teaching hand-built ceramic sculpture to primary and high school students and the playful adults among us too.

Christian Bonett

Multidisciplinary artist Christian Bonett invites us to examine our relationship with the world around us, to question societal norms and constructs, and to appreciate the beauty in the everyday.

In his recent ceramic works, Bonett employs playful forms inspired by the car, road signs, and the city's architecture to investigate our relationship with car culture and the Australian landscape. He uses colour and expressive shapes to challenge our perceptions of these everyday objects and the spaces they occupy.

Through his painted works, Bonett focuses on the landscapes and environments that drivers encounter, referencing road trips, outback highways, and the culture of driving. His works celebrate the mundane aspects of city and suburban life, highlighting the beauty of these often-overlooked spaces.
