Mould making and casting are exciting processes for sculptors which allow you to recreate everyday objects in a range of materials with endless creative possibilities. Working with a combination of simple materials this workshop will introduce you to practical skills foundational to this sculpting process.
This workshop directs you to take simple objects or toys from around the house to make impression moulds from plasticine. These single part moulds will be used to transform these three dimensional objects into two dimensional plaster casts.

Nathan Beard is a multidisciplinary artist who draws from his Australian-Thai heritage to unpack the porous nature of culture and memory. In exploring associations of ‘Thainess’ through archives, family history and popular media, Beard’s work reveals the slippery range of influences which shape identity.
In 2024 he was the recipient of the Debra Porch Award, and winner of the Darebin Art Prize. In 2022 he participated in the Creative Australia’s London residency at ACME studios, and was awarded a studio at Gertrude Contemporary (2023-25).
