Step into the Play Lab, a hands-on, high-energy workshop where experimentation, curiosity and creativity take centre stage.
In this session, we'll explore gel plate printmaking as more than just a technique. The gel plate becomes a thinking surface, a place where materials, accidents and curiosity collide to create unexpected and exciting results.
Through a series of playful, process-based explorations, teachers will experiment with line, shape and colour using both transparent layering and bold, expressive applications of paint. With simple materials and intentional limitations, participants will discover how to build rich, layered prints while letting go of perfection and embracing surprise.
Drawing from my own art practice, I'll share how abstract play can evolve into meaningful imagery, and how these same approaches can be adapted for the classroom to support student agency, risk-taking, creative confidence, cognitive flexibility and wellbeing.
This is not about perfect prints, it's about playful discovery, material exploration and seeing what happens when you give yourself permission to experiment.
